Motia KhanA centre for underprivileged children
Motia Khan is an NGO set up by the French people in New Delhi to help children from the untouchable communities in North Delhi. These children are extremely under-privileged and lack all opportunities and resources to lead better lives.
Motia Khan provides food, shelter, healthcare and education to them.
Children aged between 5-14 live in this shelter. Extreme poverty and the social ill of untouchability have taken away the joys of a happy childhood from them. Their parents do not have the resources to provide even the basic needs of life like food, shelter and clothing to them. Education is a far-fetched dream for many.
It needs volunteers to help at the centre or to accompany the children for their medical appointments.
Provding healthy food and proper healthcare is the only way to fight the acute malnutrition these children suffer from. Providing education is also necessary to let these children have a better future. There is a classroom in the shelter to prepare the younger children for school and assisting the older ones with heir school studies.
There is a also a plan to set up a creche to look after very young children. This will allow young girls to attend school as they will not be required to stay back and take care of their younger siblings then.
