Samarthanam is a non-profit, non governmental organisation that aims to empower the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged people in India. It also provides opportunities for the deserving, young, and talented children with disability in any form, or to those from marginalized economic backgrounds. Samarthanam has won the NASSCOM Social Innovation Award-2016.
Since 1997, Samarthanam has worked relentlessly to empower the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged people through developmental initiatives focusing on educational, social, economic, cultural and technological aspects. However the long term focus of Samarthanam is to shape an inclusive society which provides opportunities—without any discrimination—for the development of the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged people.
There is no specific requirement. The volunteer should be above the age of 16. Interested people may visit the NGO and see all the programs and decide which project someone would like to get involved in.
Samarthanam provides quality education, accommodation, nutritious food, vocational training, placement based rehabilitation and achieve personal independence to the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged to keep in pace with the rest of the society .
