LTFT is a creation of the Lha Charitable Trust — a registered, grass-roots NGO based in Dharamsala, India. LTFT is a company registered with the Government of India’s Ministry of Corporate Affairs under the Companies Act of 1956. It is a certified cooperative, offering a wide range of handmade Tibetan craftworks – from handloom textiles to jewelry, home décor and personal accessories to Tibetan art. In addition to being a retailer, LTFT is a licensed import, export, and wholesale company.
The primary aim of LTFT is to support the needs of the Lha Charitable Trust, a Tibetan social work organization providing crucial resources for Tibetan refugees, working to improve the standard of living and educational opportunities of local Tibetan and Indian communities. It also raises awareness about the unique culture of the Tibetan people. Through this aim, 1. they seek to become more sustainable and self-sufficient, 2. provide high-quality Fair Trade products and efficient service to customers both domestic and international, and 3. support the artisans and their art-works.

The beautiful art works are produced by their artist partners: weavers, sculptors, jewelers and metalsmiths, potters, tailors, dyers and engravers. They are craftsmen and craftswomen, accomplished in their arts and a living part of their endangered Tibetan heritage. They are refugees from Tibet, living in settlements in New Delhi, Dehradun (Uttarakhand), and Dharamsala (Himachal Pradesh). Each of their artist partners face the hardships of life in exile.
Lha Tibet Fair Trade is committed to supporting the artists of these refugee communities by paying their artists a fair value for their crafts, develop a larger and more sustainable market for their goods, and commit a portion of LTFT’s profits to the Lha Charitable Trust, which undertakes education, health, and employment initiatives for the Tibetan community in Dharamsala.
