Rajiv Gupta, a Delhi businessman and Agui Panme, a music teacher and professional musician and singer, are two of the founders of the Soulcial Trust. Together with other friends, they were motivated to set up the Trust after seeing the inequality and lack of consideration for people with disability in Delhi and India generally. They set up the Soulcial Trust with the aim to seek ways together with the community to help raise awareness about the needs of disabled people living in India.
After meeting and getting to know the “Delhi Warrior” wheelchair rugby team members through the association ESCIP India (Empowering Spinal Cord Injured Persons) the founders initiated the work on Xlability, to help promote disability rights through sports.
The trust founders and their co-workers hope to put accessibility at the forefront of society’s mind to help improve the lives of disabled people in India and beyond.
Soulcialtravel.com is a service of the Soulcial Trust, a NGO set up with the following missions :
To raise awareness about social issues and causes in developing countries, in particular for disabled communities and environmental concerns, and to connect individuals wishing to volunteer for causes while living or travelling abroad with NGOs in need of volunteer services.
The Soulcial Trust does this through three major activities – our “pillars”: Soulcialtravel.com, XLability and Green Influence.
See below for more details on each.
CREATING A SOULFUL, SOCIAL AND REWARDING JOURNEY …
There are three major pillars of the Soulcial Trust’s work.
- The first is the Soulcialtravel.com website, which serves to connect NGOs and people living or travelling abroad to promote opportunities for volunteering.
- The second is a disability awareness project that emphasizes on the ability of disabled people through sport both in India and Cambodia. This project, called « Xlability » is the result of a joined effort with the french NGO of the same name « Xlability ». Simultaneously, the Soulcial Trust implemented an educational programme to help schools and organisations to understand more about disability in India and Cambodia, the complexities and challenges of daily life for disabled people, with a focus on various aspects of life from education to government policy, accessibility challenges, disability and employment and disability and the family. - The third pillar is about environmental issues in Cambodia and others countries in South-East Asia. Green Influence is a project where we play a coordinating role between the different environmental stakeholders of Siem Reap, in Cambodia, and take action to raise awareness on environmental issues and challenges. We do this through cleaning missions, exhibitions and a city eco workshops. (More information on Soulcialtrust.org)
